How two parents can choose a baby name together

By Petit Mokus · Published

Choosing a name is one of the first decisions two parents make together, and it is easy for it to turn into one person proposing and the other vetoing. A little structure helps.

Start apart

Each of you writes your own short list before you compare anything. Three to ten names is plenty. Working separately first means both lists are honest, and neither of you is reacting to the other.

Compare without arguing

Go through each other’s names one at a time and simply say yes or no. Names you both said yes to are your shared starting point. There is no need to defend or attack any single name at this stage.

Narrow it down

Rank the names you both liked. If you have the same first choice, you are done. If not, remove names one at a time until one remains.

Where Petit Mokus BabyNaming fits

Petit Mokus BabyNaming follows these same steps for two parents: separate shortlists, swiping on each other’s picks, matches, finalists and a podium, alongside official name-popularity data.
